Landslides hit Bududa district in eastern Uganda on Tuesday night (local time), June 4, leaving at least five people dead and some 50 others missing. According to the Red Cross, approximately 150 houses were destroyed by the landslides. Authorities have advised individuals in areas vulnerable to landslides to evacuate and take shelter on more stable ground.
Further rainfall is forecast in Bududa district over the coming days, which may cause additional landslides. Consequent transportation disruptions are to be expected in affected areas over the coming days.
Individuals in Bududa district are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid landslide-affected areas, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders).
