A 5.5-magnitude earthquake strikes near Kulamansig (Sultan Kudarat province, Mindanao) on June 6; aftershocks possible in coming hours and days

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 5.5-magnitude earthquake some 8 km (5 mi) east-northeast of Kalamansig (Sultan Kudarat province, Mindanao island) at 04:41 (local time) on Thursday, June 6. The quake struck at a depth of 466 km (289 mi). There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties. Further aftershocks and associated damage are possible in the coming hours and days.


Individuals in Sultan Kudarat province are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves from falling debris if indoors, to move away from windows, and not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
