The Lebanese Communist Party (LCP) has called on its members to participate in a sit-in protest in front of the Embassy of Sudan in Beirut, near the Bristol Hotel, at 16:30 (local time) on Friday, June 7. The demonstration is reportedly being held to denounce recent violence in Sudan.
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected around the demonstration. Similar protests are possible in Beirut over the near term.
Sudanese security and affiliated militia forces violently dispersed a sit-in demonstration outside the Defense Ministry in Khartoum on June 3, prompting protests in the capital, the neighboring city of Omdurman, and in Atbara. Opposition-linked doctors claim at least 108 people were killed in the crackdown and related clashes in recent days.
Individuals in Beirut are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
