Teachers in Valparaíso region have called for protests to take place on Tuesday, June 11, amid a nationwide strike ongoing since June 3. Protesters are expected to gather near the National Congress building to demand that Congress draft legislation to deal with issues driving the protests: notably, demands for improved working conditions and retirement benefits. Other marches are expected to take place throughout the streets of Valparaíso. As the union called for an indefinite strike, additional, sporadic protest activity is to be expected near government buildings and universities.
A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are to be expected around demonstration sites.
Individuals in Chile are advised to monitor the situation, avoid protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
