Members of the Yoruba ethnic group are planning to hold demonstrations in the capital cities of several southwestern states on Wednesday, June 12, to protest insecurity in the region. The Yoruba Koya Movement is organizing rallies in Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Kogi, and Kwara states, which will all being at 09:00 (local time). Yoruba leaders said that the protests are being held to denounce ongoing killings and kidnappings targeting the community in Yoruba-speaking states. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected around all demonstrations.
Individuals in the abovementioned states are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
