Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro state) will host the Olympikus Half Marathon on Saturday, June 22, and the Cosan Marathon on Sunday, June 23, along with two smaller races. Transportation disruptions, including road closures, increased traffic congestion, and pedestrian barriers, are expected along the routes as well as heightened security measures.
The half marathon will begin at 06:15 (local time) on Saturday at Leblon Beach and finish at Aterro de Flamengo in the Flamengo neighborhood after following a route along the coast and working its way past the RJ Santos Dumont Airport (SDU). Sunday's marathon is scheduled to begin at 05:15. The course will begin at Aterro de Flamengo and head north along the coast to Santo Cristo before doubling back and heading to the west end of Leblon Beach. Runners will then return along a similar route to the finish line near Flamengo. Other races are also scheduled on Sunday at 08:00.
Individuals in Rio de Janeiro are advised to anticipate transportation disruptions, heightened security measures, and crowded conditions, and avoid large public gatherings as a precaution.
