TIMEFRAME expected from 6/15/2019, 12:00 AM until 6/17/2019, 11:59 PM (Africa/Nairobi). COUNTRY/REGION Wajir

A police vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Wajir county on Saturday, June 15, leaving at least ten police officers dead. The police officers were reportedly seeking suspected Al-Shabaab militants who kidnapped three police reservists in Konton on Friday, June 14.

Similar incidents are possible near the Kenyan-Somali border over the near term.

Al-Shabaab continues to regularly carry out attacks near the porous border with Somalia as well as in coastal areas in retaliation for Kenya's participation in a multinational force fighting Al-Shabaab in Somalia since 2011.

Individuals in Kenya are advised to monitor developments, avoid nonessential travel to areas near the Kenyan-Somali border due to the risk of terror-related violence, remain vigilant, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
