Greece News Alert

Greece to hold parliamentary elections on July 7; heightened security measures and associated demonstrations expected leading up to, during, and following the elections

Parliamentary elections will be held in Greece on Sunday, July 7. The snap elections come after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' Syriza party suffered a heavy defeat during the European parliamentary election, winning only 9 percent of the vote.

Heightened security measures and associated political demonstrations are likely leading up to, during, and following the elections.

Individuals in Greece are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all large public gatherings as a precaution, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments, and refrain from discussing political topics in public or on social media.
