Syria News Alert

An attack carried out from Syrian government forces area targets a Turkish outpost in Idlib June 16; further attacks possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 6/17/2019, 12:00 AM until 6/19/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Damascus). COUNTRY/REGION Idlib (Idlib province)

Turkish Defense Ministry announced on Sunday, June 16, that a Turkish outpost located in Idlib was attacked with mortar fire and shelling from Tall Bazan, an area controlled by Syrian government forces. Turkish forces used heavy weapons in retaliation. The attack reportedly caused material damages.

Such further attacks targeting Turkish military positions are possible in Idlib over the near term.

To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.

Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
