Striking miners clashed with police at Chuquicamata mine on Tuesday, June 18, as miners attempted to obstruct access to the site. The clashes came amid the fifth day of the strike by the miners, who launched the industrial action following the failure of talks over a collective labor contract. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the striking miners; at least 12 people were arrested.
