Event

Various human rights organizations, including Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and Amnesty International-Kenya, are planning to hold a solidarity march in Nairobi on Wednesday, June 19, in support of protesters in Sudan. The rally is scheduled to begin at 09:00 (local time) at Freedom Corner. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected in the area.

Context

Sudanese security and affiliated militia forces violently dispersed a sit-in demonstration outside the Defense Ministry in Khartoum on June 3, which prompted opposition supporters to organize a civil disobedience. Opposition-linked medics claimed that the death toll from the June 3 security operation had risen to 128, while the government announced 61 deaths.

Individuals in Nairobi are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, allow additional time to travel, and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
