A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck approximately 70 km (43 mi) south-southwest of San Martin (Mendoza province) on Wednesday, June 19. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake hit at 22:23 (local time) at a depth of 149 km (93 mi). No damages were immediately reported. Aftershocks are possible in coming hours and days.


Individuals in the affected area are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves from falling debris if indoors, to move away from windows, and not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
