Tunisian authorities announced on Thursday, June 20, that increased security measures will be put in place across the country ahead of the 2019 tourist season. More than 30,000 security officers will be deployed to guard the Tunisian coasts and control access to the main touristic cities. A heightened army presence is also planned, notably at the borders with Libya and Algeria. All touristic facilities, including hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, will be equipped with surveillance cameras and staff will be provided with security training. The Ministry of Tourism announced that around nine million tourists are expected to travel to Tunisia this summer.
Individuals in Tunisia are advised to adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities, to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious objects or behavior to the authorities.
