According to local officials, at least eight people were killed following a pipeline explosion in southern Nigeria's Rivers state on Saturday, June 22. The explosion took place in the Kom Kom area of Oyigbo, while maintenance work was carried out on the pipeline. A large fire was reportedly burning until the morning (local time) of Sunday, June 23. The death toll is likely to rise in the coming days as officials investigate the incident.
