A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the Bahrain embassy located in the Mansour district of Baghdad on Friday, June 28, after protesters stormed the embassy on Thursday, June 27. On Thursday, protesters gathered outside the embassy to denounce the Bahrain Conference held in Manama on June 25-26. Some protesters were able to get access to the Embassy courtyard, lowered the Bahraini flag and raised the Iraqi and Palestinian flags. They also burned the American and Israeli flags. Security forces reportedly fired warning shots with live rounds to disperse the protestors. No injuries were reported. Bahrain has recalled its Ambassador following the incident.
Individuals in Iraq, particularly in Baghdad, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests due to the risk of violence, budget extra time to reach their destinations if traveling through the affected area, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and/or the relevant security management team.
