Road closures implemented for the Russian head of state’s visit to Rome July 3-5; transportation disruptions expected

President Vladimir Putin will visit Rome on Thursday, July 4, causing several road closures and transportation disruptions. The city is implementing a green zone. The green zone will limit the types of vehicles allowed in the area and prohibit public events from 19:00 (local time) on Wednesday, July 3, through 07:00 on Friday, July 5. The Green Zone that shields the heart of the historic center includes over 50 streets from Viale Castro Pretorio to Via dei Fori Imperiali, passing through Piazza del Popolo, Via Veneto, Via Trinità dei Monti, Piazza del Campidoglio. For an exhaustive list of all streets affected, consult this site. The historic center and the Vatican area will notably be affected.

A heightened security presence should be expected throughout the abovementioned areas.  


Individuals in Rome are advised to avoid all cordoned areas as a precaution, allow ample travel time, and obey instructions issued by the local authorities.
