On Wednesday, July 3, the Interior Ministry confirmed that the suicide bombing that occurred in the Intilaka area of Tunis on Tuesday, July 2, was carried out by wanted Islamic State (IS) militant. The militant reportedly blew himself up after being surrounded and shot at by the police, following a long chase. No casualties were reported.
Further such attacks and related security operations are possible in Tunis in the near term.
Two suicide bombings were reported in Tunis on June 27. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attacks, in which one police officer was killed and eight others were wounded.
Individuals in Tunis are advised to monitor developments, avoid the affected area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
