Clashes in Benishangul-Gumuz region's Metekel zone left between five to 12 people killed and 11 others wounded on Sunday, July 7. The incident was reportedly caused by the stabbing of an official in Mandura locality, sparking a round of clashes between rival ethnic groups. Further violence is possible in Metekel zone and neighboring Amhara region in the coming weeks.

At least 50 people were killed in a raid in Metekel zone on June 24, shortly after the June 22 assassinations and alleged coup attempt. The June 22 incident, which involved the assassination of five major political figures in Addis Ababa and the Amhara regional capital of Bahir Dar, sparked a wave of security operations in Amhara region and a nationwide internet blackout.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant for security operations and militant activity, anticipate telecommunication disruptions and heightened security measures, maintain redundant modes of communication, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
