Event

A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonation killed at least 11 people and wounded 25 others in Afrin (Aleppo province) on Thursday, July 11. Police reportedly attributed the attack to the primarily Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

Similar attacks are possible in Aleppo province over the near term. 

Context

To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.
