Hundreds of protesters have reportedly gathered at Trubaya Square in Moscow on Monday, July 15, to call on election officials to include opposition candidates on the ballot for the upcoming local election. The protests come as thousands rallied in the capital on Sunday, July 14, outside the Moscow City Election Committee and elsewhere following the committee's decision to exclude opposition candidates from the September 8 city council election. According to local sources, police have arrested some demonstrators as of Monday evening (local time).

A heightened security presence is likely around the demonstration site; clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. Further protests are likely in the coming days and weeks in Moscow.

Individuals in Moscow are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
