Pakistan: Flash flooding kills around 22 people in Azad Kashmir July 15

Pakistan News Alert

Flash floods kill at least 22 people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on July 15; infrastructure damage and associated disruptions reported

TIMEFRAME expected from 7/15/2019, 12:00 AM until 7/17/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Karachi). COUNTRY/REGION Pakistan

Intense rainstorms caused flash flooding in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, July 15, leading to the deaths of at least 22 people. At least 150 homes, a market, and two mosques were destroyed in the Neelum Valley due to flooding. Landslides and road damage were also reported in the area. Transportation disruptions due to road closures are expected in the coming days and weeks.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate road closures and other transportation disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.

Many Western governments advise against all travel near the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border which divides Pakistani- and Indian-administered Kashmir, due to the significant risk of violence.
