The Peruvian Medical Federation (FMP) is planning to hold a 48-hour nationwide strike from Wednesday, July 17, through Thursday, July 18. Doctors and other medical professionals have announced they will participate in the work stoppage. Patients with appointments and surgeries scheduled at public hospitals during the strike are being warned to anticipate disruptions or cancelations. Other health service disruptions, including longer wait times, are likely in the coming days. Associated demonstrations are also possible.
The FMP is calling for salary increases for medical professionals, as well as a higher 2020 budget to purchase more equipment, medicines, and laboratory supplies.
Individuals in Peru are advised to confirm doctor's appointments, to anticipate longer waiting times in medical facilities for the duration of the strike, and to avoid any potential related protests.
