Event

The Democratic Coalition has scheduled a protest for Sunday, July 21, to oppose a measure that would change presidential term limits outlined by the constitution. Protesters will gather at 10:00 (local time) at the Enriquillo Park and later march to Independence Park.

More protests are expected in the coming days and weeks.

A heightened security presence is possible near all protests. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Protesters have been opposing a proposal to remove presidential term limits since June, which is largely advocated by President Danilo Medina's supporters. President Medina is currently serving his second term in office.

Advice

Individuals in Santo Domingo are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
