A protest at Admiralty MTR station (Admiralty) on Wednesday, July 24, is causing significant delays on the Island Line as of 08:45 (local time). The protest began around 07:30 with a group of people refusing to let a train depart the station. Overcrowding and severe delays are reported in Admiralty.

Protesters are demanding MTR provide an explanation for continuing to run trains to Yuen Long MTR station during violent attacks that left 45 people hospitalized on Sunday, July 21.

Protests and mass demonstrations of up to 2 million people have been held since June 9 in opposition to a controversial bill that would allow Hong Kong to extradite fugitives wanted in mainland China and other territories. Opponents claim the law would erode freedoms and be used to silence dissent and criticism. The bill has been suspended, though not fully withdrawn.

Individuals in Hong Kong are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, seek alternative modes of transportation, and allow additional time to reach their destination.
