National Salvation Front (NSF) rebels claimed to have killed eight government soldiers after the military attacked their position in Karpeto region's Lo'bonok area (former Central Equatoria state) early (local time) on Tuesday, July 23. The claim was not immediately confirmed by South Sudanese military officials.
Similar clashes are to be expected in South Sudan over the near term.

Many Western governments advise against nonessential travel to South Sudan due to ongoing violence against civilians, international staff, and aid workers. Border regions, including Abyei, should particularly be avoided. If travel is necessary, ensure that proper security protocols are in place.
