Pakistan News Alert

Heavy rain and flooding in Karachi July 30; transportation disruptions and power outage reported

TIMEFRAME expected from 7/30/2019, 12:00 AM until 7/31/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Karachi). COUNTRY/REGION Karachi

Pakistan's Meteorological Department is expecting heavy rain to continue hitting Karachi on Tuesday, July 30, following similar weather conditions, which left 11 people killed and three others injured the day prior. Several areas of the city remain flooded and without electricity as of Tuesday.

Rain is also expected in other parts of the Sindh province, including in Hyderabad, Thatta, Mirpur Khas, Larkana, and Sukkur, as well as in the Balochistan province.

Associated traffic disruptions and power outages are possible in Karachi within the next 48-hours.

Individuals in Karachi are advised to monitor developments to weather forecasts. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded. Furthermore, individuals should keep battery-operated devices fully charged whenever possible and be on guard due to possible traffic hazards caused by non-functional traffic lights.
