Activists to protest in Beni August 1; heightened security and localized transportation disruptions possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 8/1/2019, 12:00 AM until 8/1/2019, 11:59 PM (Africa/Kinshasa). COUNTRY/REGION Beni

The Fight for Change (LUCHA) civil society group has announced a protest in Beni (North Kivu) on Thursday, August 1, to draw attention to the ongoing Ebola outbreak and insecurity in the country. Demonstrators will meet at the city hall building at 10:00 (local time) and march to the MONUSCO base in Bokeine.

Although organizers intend for the march to pass off peacefully, clashes with security forces are possible. A heightened security presence and localized disruptions, including transportation delays, are possible.

Individuals in Beni are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate localized disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
