The death toll from the car explosion that took place in Cairo on Monday, August 5, has risen to at least 19 people, while 30 other are wounded. The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated that the explosion was caused by a moving vehicle traveling against traffic, which collided with three other vehicles outside the National Cancer Institute during the early morning hours (local time).

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in the area over the coming hours.
