Event

Officials at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) indicated on Monday, August 5, that a strike by airport workers scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 6, has been called off. Workers at LHR had initially planned to stage a work-stoppage on August 5-6 as the Unite labor union and airport officials continue negotiations over a pay dispute. Nearly 200 flights were canceled on Monday and Tuesday ahead of the strike affecting some 200,000 passengers.

Further strikes are slated to take place on August 23-24 as approximately 4000 workers, including security guards, engineers, passenger service operatives, and drivers, are expected to participate in the industrial action. Disruptions, including flight delays and cancellations, are expected if the strikes go ahead.

Advice

Individuals flying to or from LHR are advised to keep abreast of the situation, confirm flight reservations prior to leaving for the airport, and anticipate disruptions to airport operations.
