Severe flooding causes evacuations, power outages, and transportation disruptions in Maharashtra state as heavy rainfall continues on Tuesday, August 6. More than 10,000 people have been evacuated and another 85,000 people are without power in Kolhapur district due to flooding as of 14:30 (local time) on Tuesday. Officials in Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, and Sangli districts closed schools and colleges on Tuesday due to heavy flooding and associated transportation disruptions. Moderate rainfall is forecast to continue through the end of the week, with intermittent heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
Transportation disruptions, including road closures and train delays and cancelations, and communication disruptions are expected in the coming hours and days.
