Militants kill two and burn several homes in Cabo Delgado province; similar attacks possible over the coming days and weeks

Two more attacks have been reported in the Cabo Delgado province by militants on Monday, August 5. The first attack, which took place on Sunday, July 28, began as an ambush by insurgents and resulted in two citizens being killed by beheading. Insurgents also burned crops following the attack. The second attack, on Thursday, August 1, involved insurgents burning multiple homes near Macomia, though no casualties were reported. Further militant attacks are possible in Cabo Delgado province over the coming days and weeks.


Ahlu Sunna Wa-Jamo/Ansar Al-Sunna (Al-Shabaab) is believed to be responsible for carrying out attacks against local businesses, government installations, and security forces in Cabo Delgado province since October 2017.


Individuals in Cabo Delgado province are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments. Some Western governments advise against nonessential travel to parts of Cabo Delgado province.
