A landslide caused by recent flooding left at least ten people dead and dozens more injured in Thaton district (Mon state) as of Friday morning (local time), August 9. Several houses and vehicles were buried in the landslide, and rescue operations were underway as of Friday evening. Approximately 12,000 people have been displaced due to flooding in southern Myanmar in recent days.

Additional landslides are possible in the area as further rainfall is forecast over the coming days.  


Individuals in the area are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid the area of the landslide, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
