Authorities reported that at least 15 people, mostly members of security forces, are dead following a series of Northern Alliance insurgent attacks targeting government interests across the Shan state and Mandalay region on Thursday, August 15. Attacks were carried out on the Defense Services Technological Academy in Pyin Oo Lwin (Mandalay region) and on various bridges, toll gates, and police stations near Nawnghkio and Gokhteik (Shan state). Significant road and railway closures have been reported in the affected areas, and the US State Department issued a warning on Thursday advising individuals to avoid travel in the areas.

Further attacks and violent clashes between armed groups and Burmese security forces in Shan state and Mandalay region are to be expected over the coming days and weeks.
