As of 15:50 (local time) on Friday, August 16, US Customs and Border Protection officiala said that their computer systems are coming back online after a network outage caused significant disruptions to customs operations nationwide, including at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Officials also said that the technical issue did not appear to be caused by anything malicious in nature.

Residual delays in customs processing are to be expected for travelers arriving in the US on international flights over the coming hours. Considerable congestion is also to be anticipated at airports nationwide.
