The 2019 Pride parade in Montreal (Québec province) is scheduled to be held on Sunday, August 18, starting at 13:00 (local time), to support equal rights for lesbian, gas, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex people. The parade is due to pass along René-Lévesque Boulevard, from Metcalfe Street to Alexandre-DeSève Street. Transport authorities have said several roads will be closed to vehicles, including:
- René-Lévesque Boulevard, between Guy and Metcalfe streets from 08:00 to 16:00
- Mackay, Bishop and Crescent streets between Saint-Catherine Street and René-Lévesque Boulevard from 08:00 to 16:00
- René-Lévesque Boulevard, between Metcalfe Street and Avenue Papineau from 12:15 to 17:00
- Rue de Champlain and Alexandre-DeSève streets, between Sainte-Catherine and René-Lévesque from 12:15 to 17:00
Other road closures are possible, and traffic disruptions and an increased demand for alternative transportation are expected in the area. Heightened security measures are also likely. Counterprotests cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Montreal are advised to remain vigilant, report suspicious objects and behavior to the police, follow instructions issued by local authorities, and avoid all gatherings as a precaution.
