A wildfire that has been raging across the island of Gran Canaria since Saturday, August 17, has forced the evacuation of more than 9000 people as of Monday, August 19. The fire has mostly affected the central part of the island, including the area surrounding the Tejeda municipality and much of the Tamadaba natural park. Officials stated on Monday that the fire is "neither contained nor controlled."

Though firefighters are battling the wildfire, it is expected to spread over the coming days. Transportation and business disruptions are to be expected in areas near the blaze.
