Recovery efforts are ongoing in Rubirizi district (Western Uganda region) as of Monday, August 19, after a fuel tanker exploded along a highway on Sunday, August 18. Officials confirmed the deaths of at least 19 people after a fuel truck lost control and crashed into passing cars on the highway between Kampala and Kasese. The explosion also damaged some 30 nearby businesses. 

The death toll may rise in the coming hours as more information is released.


Individuals in Rubirizi district are advised to monitor developments to the situation, obey all instructions issued by the local authorities, and avoid the area of the incident.
