At least three policemen and one civilian were killed when suspected armed robbers attacked the convoy of Nasarawa State Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe in Akwanga local government area (Nasarawa state) in the evening (local time) on Tuesday, August 20. The Deputy Governor was reportedly traveling to Abuja when gunmen attacked his convoy, exchanging fire with policemen; Akabe was uninjured in the attack. An investigation into the incident is ongoing as of Wednesday, August 21.

A heightened security presence is expected in the area. Further attacks are possible in Nasarawa state over the near term.
