The head of Jordanian Parliament's Palestine committee announced that lawmakers will hold a sit-in at the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge border crossing between Israel and Jordan on Friday, August 23, to protest Israeli security forces' attack on Palestinian worshipers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque during Eid Al-Adha on Sunday, August 11. Organizers did not immediately announce a start time for the demonstration.
A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions, including delays crossing the border, are expected.
Clashes between Israeli police officers and Muslim worshipers broke out on August 11 after some Israeli settlers were allowed to enter the Temple Mount compound under a heavy police presence to mark the day of Tisha B'Av. According to the Red Crescent, at least 61 Palestinians were wounded in the fighting.
Individuals in Jordan and Israel are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all demonstrations as a precaution, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, allow for additional time while traveling, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
