Recovery efforts continue as of Friday, August 23, after a ferry transporting 277 people from Tanjung Perak port in East Java's Surabaya caught fire on Thursday, August 22, leaving at least three people dead and 30 others missing. The fire broke out roughly 11 hours after the vessel departed for Balikpapan in East Kalimantan province. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear, but a power outage aboard the ferry prevented the crew from extinguishing the flames.
