UK: Strike scheduled on London Underground Central and Victoria lines August 29-30

United Kingdom News Alert

Tube operators to stage a 24-hour walkout on the Central and Victoria lines on August 29-30; associated transportation disruptions expected

TIMEFRAME expected from 8/20/2019, 12:00 AM until 9/1/2019, 11:59 PM (Europe/London). COUNTRY/REGION London

Event

The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) rail union has called a 24-hour strike action on the London Underground (Tube) beginning from 20:00 (local time) on Thursday, August 29, until 20:00 on Friday, August 30, suspending operations on the Central Line and on the Victoria Line. Tube operators are protesting working conditions on both lines, including overtime working conditions, understaffing, and unlawful deduction of wages.

A saturation of alternative means of transportation (buses, other lines, etc.) as well as increased traffic congestion are expected.

Context

The Central Line is one of the busiest underground lines in the UK; it is the only line running from the northeast of London (Essex) to the west (Ealing Broadway and West Ruislip) passing through the city center.

Advice

Travelers are advised to plan alternate routes and allow for extra time to reach their destinations for the duration of the strike.
