Lebanon News Alert

Multiple airstrikes reportedly hit Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) positions in Beqaa Valley on August 26; details still emerging

TIMEFRAME expected from 8/26/2019, 12:00 AM until 8/28/2019, 11:59 PM (Asia/Beirut). COUNTRY/REGION Beqaa Valley

A series of airstrikes reportedly targeted Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) positions near Qousaya in the Beqaa Valley during the early morning hours (local time) of Monday, August 26. According to a PFLP-GC official, three strikes caused material damage to one position but did not result in any casualties. Local media have accused the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of conducting the operation, but Israeli officials have refused to comment on the incident. Further details regarding the strikes are still emerging.

The August 26 incident comes after two days of suspected IDF operations targeting Hezbollah positions and personnel in Lebanon and Syria. Israeli officials confirmed that airstrikes were conducted near Damascus on Saturday, August 24, to prevent an Iranian-led drone attack against Israel. Hezbollah also claimed that two drones that were downed in Beirut on Sunday, August 25, were also operated by the IDF. One of the drones reportedly exploded near the group’s media center, causing some damages to the building. The IDF has not commented on the incident in Beirut.

Individuals in Lebanon are advised to monitor developments to the situation.
