Taxi drivers in Pretoria are protesting for the second consecutive day as of Wednesday, August 28, over drug-related activity led by suspected police officers, which eventually led to the killing of a taxi driver and prompted the protests. As of Wednesday morning (local time), drivers have parked taxis on main roads across the Central Business District (CBD), bringing traffic to standstill, and looted several shops. Police have been dispatched to try and unblock roads. Parts of the CBD are reportedly considered a no-go zone; associated traffic disruptions are expected in the coming hours.
