Event

Violent clashes between nomadic groups and farmers were reported in Koumogo, located in the Moyen-Chari region (south Chad) on Monday, August 26. At least eleven people were killed in the incident. Police forces have been deployed in the area to quell the violence.

Further intercommunal violence is possible in the area in the near term.

Context

Chad is affected by recurrent inter-communal violence incidents, notably in the Sila, Ouaddaï and Tibesti regions, where President Idriss Deby announced the declaration of a state of emergency on August 18 after ongoing inter-communal violence left at least 109 people dead. However, a resurgence of violence has been reported in these areas since the beginning of August.
