Event

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck approximately 276 km (171 mi) west-northwest of Bandon (Oregon state) around 08:08 (local time) on Thursday, August 29. The quake occurred at a depth of about 12 km (7.5 mi). According to the US National Tsunami Warning Center, there is no threat of a tsunami from the earthquake.

Aftershocks are possible in the region over the coming hours.

Advice

Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor the situation and prepare for aftershocks.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from the windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
