Police officials announced at approximately 17:30 (local time) that the active shooter situation in Odessa (Texas state) has ended. The suspected shooter was killed after exchanging gunfire with police officers near a movie theater. At least five people were killed in the shootings, and another three police officers and 21 civilians wounded. According to the Odessa police chief, authorities believe that there was only one shooter despite earlier reports of a second suspect. However, police officers remain vigilant and an investigation into the shootings is ongoing.

According to initial reports, the incident started around 15:15 when officers attempted to make a traffic stop near Midland. The suspected gunman shot an officer and then drove into Odessa before stealing a US Postal Service mail truck. After stealing the truck, the suspected fired on random people before being killed near the movie theater. Police officials have provided some deatils of the suspect but have declined to provide a name or motive as of 18:30. A heightened police presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated in Odessa over the coming hours as the authorities investigate the scenes of the shootings.
