Typhoon Lingling is forecast to make landfall on the Korean Peninsula on Saturday, September 7. As of Thursday, September 5, the typhoon is expected to hit either South Hwanghae province in North Korea or Gyeonggi province in South Korea. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the storm will bring maximum sustained winds of 126 kph (78 mph) and heavy rain to the region. Flooding, damaging winds, and strong waves are expected to impact North Korea through at least Sunday, September 8, as the storm moves north through the country. Associated transportation and business disruptions are possible.

As of 10:00 (local time) on September 5, Typhoon Lingling is located at approximately 24.3°N 125.3°E (map here) with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph (87 mph). The storm is moving north at 19 kph (12 mph) and is expected to maintain its intensity as it approaches the Korean Peninsula.


Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
