The Extinction Rebellion (XR) environmentalist activist group has called for protests in London on Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8 to demand urgent action on climate change. Protesters are set to gather at the Turnpike Lane train station at 10:00 (local time) on Saturday before heading to Downhills Park. Protests, along with festivities, are planned to last until 22:00 on Sunday.
Furthermore, environmental activists have planned a protest in Leeds on Wednesday, September 11, to oppose the expansion of Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA). Participants are to gather at Civic Hall but organizers did not immediately announce a time.
XR has also called for a shutdown of the London fashion week, scheduled to take place from Friday, September 13, to Tuesday, September 17, including through daily protests on the Strand in central London during this period.
Further environmental protests are scheduled to take place in Edinburgh and Glasgow on Friday, September 20, to bring attention to climate change. In Edinburgh, activists plan to meet at 11:00 (local time) at Middle Meadow Walk and then march to Parliament. Participants in Glasgow are to meet at 11:00 at Kelvingrove Park and then march to George Square. Several hundred people are expected to attend each protest.
A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected near all protest sites.
Individuals in the UK are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations, prepare for associated disruptions to transportation and business, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
