Event

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Oregon state, some 285 km (177 mi) west-northwest of Bandon, around 08:02 (local time) on Thursday, September 5. The US Tsunami Warning System indicated a tsunami is not expected from the earthquake.

Aftershocks are possible in the region over the coming hours and days.  

Advice

Individuals in the affected region are advised to monitor the situation and prepare for aftershocks.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from the windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
