Several women's rights activists have scheduled protests in Cape Town and Pretoria in the coming days to denounce gender-based violence. In Cape Town, rallies are planned to start at 08:00 (local time) at the Grand Parade on Monday, September 9, and Wednesday, September 11. In Pretoria, protesters are due to gather in front of the Pretoria High Court at 08:30, where the trial over the alleged sexual assault of a girl will take place between September 9-20.

A heightened security presence along with traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of any protest. Further protests are likely in the coming days, notably in Pretoria during the trial. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Cape Town and Pretoria are advised to anticipate traffic disruptions and avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution.
